ヨーロッパ・アジアで繁殖しアフリカで越冬するカッコウ(体長32〜34cm)。灰色の体と横縞模様の腹が特徴。Cuculus canorus(カッコウ)は他の鳥の巣に卵を産む托卵で有名で、宿主の卵に似た卵を産む能力と托卵後のヒナの宿主排除行動が進化生物学の研究対象として重要。「カッコウ」という鳴き声は春の訪れを告げる。Cuculidae科。

Lesser Roadrunner (Geococcyx velox) — 46–52 cm. Similar to Greater Roadrunner but smaller with a more streaked breast. Found in dry scrub, open woodland, and arid valleys from Mexico to Nicaragua. Non-parasitic; carnivorous; eats insects and small vertebrates. Shares the same terrestrial running lifestyle as its northern relative.
