About These Birds

Western Plantain-eater

A large turaco (50-54 cm) found in savanna and woodland across West Africa. Grey-brown plumage with a shaggy crest. Frugivore of fig trees and other fruiting woodland trees. Named plantain-eater though rarely eats plantains. Conspicuous and noisy.

Bannerman's Turaco

A medium-sized turaco (40-43 cm) endemic to the montane forests of the Bamenda Highlands in western Cameroon. Green plumage with a red crest. Frugivore of montane forest. Classified as Endangered due to extremely restricted range and severe deforestation.
