The Black-billed Seed-finch is a robust, chunky finch of South American lowland forests and forest edges, with males displaying glossy black plumage and a very large, conical black bill suited for cracking large, hard seeds. It ranges across a broad swath of Amazonia in Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, and adjacent countries. It frequents edges of humid forests, river margins, and dense shrubby vegetation.
