東・南アフリカの乾燥した開けた林地に生息するキツツキ。雄は赤い頭頂を持ち、アリや昆虫を食べる。
Yellow-shafted Flicker
北米全域に広く分布するキツツキ（体長28〜36cm）。褐色の羽毛に黒い斑点、翼の鮮やかな黄色や橙色（亜種により異なる）が特徴的。Colaptes auratus（アリスイ属の北米種）は他のキツツキと異なりアリをなめ取ることが多く、地面での採食も多い。都市公園から農地まで広く生息する。Picidae科。
