Sharp, staccato 'krik-krik-krik' calls from lowland rainforest; often given in duet. Alarm is a loud, rapid chattering rattle; contact notes between pairs soft and clucking.
Lesser Prairie-chicken
Males boom and gobble on lek: higher-pitched, faster sequence than Greater Prairie-chicken; reddish air sacs vibrate. Display includes cackles and wing-dragging. Alarm is a sharp repeated 'kek'.

Ferruginous Partridge
Rich ferruginous (deep rusty-orange) overall; upperparts black-and-rufous barred; flanks black boldly spotted white; bare red facial skin; underparts rufous-orange; one of the most vividly coloured Southeast Asian partridges.
Lesser Prairie-chicken
Barred buff and brown like Greater Prairie-chicken but paler; males have dark pinnae feathers and reddish-pink neck sacs; yellow eye-comb; female lacks pinnae. Paler overall than its larger relative.
