アラスカで繁殖し、北米・中米の海岸で越冬するシギ(体長14〜17cm)。小型で垂れた嘴先端が特徴。Calidris mauri(ニシアメリカウズラシギ)は北米で最も普通に見られる小型シギの一つで、干潟や泥浜で虫や甲殻類を探す。ウエスタン・サンドパイパーとも呼ばれる。Scolopacidae科。
