クロエボシガラはテキサスとメキシコ北東部に分布するエボシガラに近縁の小型の冠羽を持つ鳴禽で、特徴的な黒い冠羽・白い顔・赤褐色の脇腹・灰色の上面を持つ。エドワーズ台地・リオグランデ平原およびその周辺地域の混交林・メスキート低木地・河畔林に生息する。昆虫・種子・ベリー・ドングリを食べる。
