独特に反り上がったキリ状の嘴を持つ小型のハチドリ(8〜9cm)。緑色の羽毛と燃えるようなオレンジ赤色の尾を持つ。ベネズエラ東部からギアナを経てアマゾニアにかけての湿潤低地林に生息する。蜜と昆虫を食べる。同属唯一の種。
