北極圏から亜熱帯まで世界中に分布するフクロウ（体長34〜43cm）。短い耳羽と黄色い目が特徴。Asio flammeus（コミミズク）は草原、湿地、ツンドラに生息し、日中でも狩りをすることがある。特にコレクション・ゲームとして知られる「蜂起型」飛行で草地のマウスを捕食する。Strigidae科。
