カリフォルニア州とオレゴン州南部の湿地に生息する中型の鳥（体長18〜22cm）。雄は黒い体に赤と白の翼斑を持ち、アカハラクロムクドリモドキに似るが白い縁取りが区別点。Agelaius tricolor（トリカラードブラックバード）はコロニー繁殖し、単一のコロニーが数十万羽に達することもある。IUCNで絶滅危惧種に指定されている。Icteridae科。
