ユーラシア大陸全域に広く分布する小〜中型のタカ（体長28〜38cm）。主に小型の鳥類を捕食し、農地から森林まで幅広い環境に生息する。雄は上面が青灰色、下面にオレンジ色の横縞。Accipiter nisus（ハイタカ）はヨーロッパで最もよく見られる猛禽類の一つで、特に渡りの季節に大きな群れを形成することがある。Accipitridae科。
