北半球の広葉樹林・針葉樹林に広く分布する大型のタカ（体長48〜61cm）。中型の鳥類や哺乳類を捕食する有能なハンター。灰褐色の体と白い眉斑が特徴的。Accipiter gentilis（オオタカ）は世界各地で知られる名タカで、かつては鷹狩りに多用された。日本でも森林の保全を示す指標種として重視される。Accipitridae科。
