メキシコからホンジュラスにかけての海抜600〜2,200mの湿潤な丘陵・山岳林に生息する小型のハチドリ（体長8〜9cm）。主に林縁や二次林を好む。雄は緑色の体に紫色の喉を持つ。Abeillia abeillei（ライラックスロートハチドリ）として知られ、中央アメリカの固有種。Trochilidae科に属する。
