It inhabits dense shrubby vegetation, forest edges, and early-succession forest in Amazonia and the Guiana Shield, ranging from Venezuela and Guyana to Bolivia and Brazil. It feeds on small fruits and berries, plucking them in brief hovering flights from shrubs and low trees.
