ヨーロッパ・アジアのアルプス山脈など高山の岩壁に生息するミソサザイの仲間(体長15〜17cm)。繁殖期の雄は赤い翼と黒い喉が特徴的で、岩壁を体をべったりつけてよじ登りながら虫を探す姿が独特。Tichodroma muraria(カベジリ)は「岩壁のちょう」と呼ばれることもあるほど美しい鳥。Tichodromidae科。
