ヨーロッパからロシア、日本まで広く分布するタカ（体長48〜58cm）。茶褐色から白まで様々な色彩型があるが、翼下面の白い斑と丸い翼が特徴。Buteo buteo（ノスリ）は農地や草地の上空をゆっくり旋回し、ネズミや小型哺乳類を狩る。「ミュー」と鳴く特徴的な声で知られ、日本では冬季に最もよく見られる大型猛禽の一つ。Accipitridae科。
