<birdfyi-bird slug="anas-luzonica"></birdfyi-bird>A cinnamon-buff head and neck, cut by a dark crown and eye-stripe, set the Philippine Duck (Anas luzonica) apart from every other duck in its range. The body is greyish-brown with a darker back, the speculum iridescent green, the bill blue-grey and the legs orange; sexes are alike. The species is endemic to the Philippine archipelago, using freshwater lakes, rivers, marshes, mangroves and rice paddies, mostly in lowland and foothill country below 2,500 m. Clutches run from seven to sixteen eggs. Hunting and the conversion of wetlands have driven a sustained decline, and the IUCN Red List classifies the species as Vulnerable. Recorded birds average about 850 g.
