ユーラシア大陸からアフリカにかけて繁殖・越冬する中型のヨシキリ（体長16〜20cm）。湿地や葦原を主な生息地とし、力強い歌声で知られる。茶褐色の体と淡い眉斑が特徴。Acrocephalus arundinaceus（オオヨシキリ）は複雑で長い鳴き声を持ち、葦原の「詩人」とも呼ばれる。Acrocephalidae科。
