Hoary-headed Grebe

Hoary-headed Grebe (Poliocephalus poliocephalus) is a small 27–30 cm grebe endemic to Australia and southern New Guinea. Distinctive pale grey and white head with fine dark streaking giving 'hoary' appearance; chestnut neck sides. Inhabits open freshwater lakes and reservoirs. Highly nomadic, following rain across the arid interior.

Least Grebe (Tachybaptus dominicus) is the smallest New World grebe at 21–27 cm. Dark grey overall in breeding plumage with yellow eye, blackish cap, and short bill. Inhabits small freshwater ponds, ditches, and marshes from the southern USA through Central and South America to northern Argentina. Feeds on small fish and aquatic invertebrates.
