Slaty-backed Gull
Slaty-backed Gull, 55–68 cm, breeds on coasts and cliffs of the Russian Far East, wintering south to Japan and occasionally the US Pacific coast. Dark slate-grey mantle, pink legs, 'string of pearls' white mirrors on outer wing. Omnivore; scavenges at fishing ports in East Asian harbours.
Saunders's Gull
Saunders's Gull, 29–32 cm, is a Vulnerable gull breeding in coastal saltmarshes of China and Korea, wintering along East Asian coasts to Vietnam. Black hood in breeding plumage, white wing-tip mirrors. Feeds on crustaceans and invertebrates in tidal mudflats. Threatened by reclamation of Yellow Sea tidal flats.
