Heermann's Gull
Heermann's Gull, 46–51 cm, is distinctive — dark grey body, white head (breeding), red bill. Breeds almost entirely on Isla Rasa in the Gulf of California, then disperses north along the Pacific coast to British Columbia. Kleptoparasite; steals fish from Brown Pelicans. Near Threatened; range highly restricted.
Relict Gull
Relict Gull, 44–46 cm, is a Vulnerable species breeding on remote saline lakes in Mongolia and northern China. Black hood with white eye-crescents, red bill, red legs. Very poorly known outside breeding season; winters on Yellow Sea coasts. Threatened by drought and wetland degradation.
