About These Birds
Japanese White-eye
The Japanese white-eye is a familiar garden bird across East Asia, beloved in Japan where it is called mejiro. These sociable birds form flocks outside the breeding season and are important pollinators of plum and cherry blossoms. Unfortunately, introduced populations in Hawaii have become invasive, competing with native honeycreepers.
Black-ringed White-eye
The Black-ringed White-eye is a small, active white-eye with olive-green plumage, a distinctive black ring around the white eye ring, and yellowish underparts. It is endemic to Sulawesi and adjacent Indonesian islands, inhabiting forest, forest edges, and secondary growth. It feeds on insects, nectar, and small fruits, moving energetically through the canopy in small flocks.
