Antipodean Albatross, 100–117 cm, wingspan 250–320 cm, breeds on Antipodes and Campbell Islands south of New Zealand. Males are whiter than females; brown-mantled in younger birds. Circumnavigates the Southern Ocean. Endangered; declining due to longline bycatch, plastic ingestion, and climate effects.
Shy Albatross
Shy Albatross, 90–99 cm, wingspan 220–256 cm, is the largest mollymawk, breeding only on three Tasmanian islands. White body, grey back, narrow black-and-yellow bill. Near Threatened; the most common albatross in Australian waters; affected by longline bycatch and periodic poor breeding seasons.
