Small dove, 16–19 cm; male is bright ruddy-orange below with a grey crown and dark-spotted wings; female is duller brown. One of the commonest doves in South America, found in open areas, farmland, and urban gardens from Mexico to Argentina. Granivore of seeds and grain. Least Concern.

Pohnpei Fruit-dove

Pohnpei Fruit-dove (Ptilinopus ponapensis), 22 cm. Green with a lilac head and an orange-yellow breast; endemic to Pohnpei, Micronesia. Occupies primary forest above 200 m on this volcanic island. Frugivore. Vulnerable; total range barely exceeds 100 km².
