About These Birds
Forbes's Plover
Forbes's Plover: 18–20 cm, sub-Saharan African plover with a white forehead, incomplete chestnut breast-band bordered by black, and flesh-colored legs. Resident in open woodland, burnt grassland, and farmland from Senegal east to Ethiopia and south to Angola. Insectivorous, foraging on bare ground. Largely sedentary.
Spot-breasted Lapwing
Spot-breasted Lapwing: 28–30 cm, Ethiopian highland endemic lapwing with a black head and breast spotted white, and red legs. Restricted to high-altitude moorland and montane grassland above 1,800 m in Ethiopia. Insectivorous. Sedentary; rare and little-studied. Declining due to overgrazing and agricultural encroachment.
