About These Birds
Black-headed Canary
The Black-headed Canary is a small, sexually dimorphic finch; males have a distinctive black head and bib contrasting with white cheeks and rufous upperparts, while females are brown-streaked. It inhabits arid scrublands, rocky hillsides, and dry riverbeds of southern Africa, particularly Namibia and South Africa. It feeds on small grass seeds and forages mostly on the ground or in low shrubs.
