Rostratulidae

Painted-snipes; 3 species of colorful, medium-sized wading birds found in Africa, South Asia, Australia, and South America. Females are more brightly colored than males; roles are reversed with polyandrous females and males incubating eggs. Inhabit dense vegetated freshwater marshes and paddies.
