Amami Woodcock
Amami Woodcock: 34–36 cm, large rufous woodcock endemic to the Ryukyu Islands of Japan (Amami-Oshima, Tokunoshima). Inhabits dense subtropical forest. Nocturnal; probes soil for earthworms. NT. Threatened by feral mongooses introduced for snake control and habitat loss. Sedentary island endemic. Similar to Eurasian Woodcock.

Green Sandpiper: 21–24 cm, dark olive-brown sandpiper with brilliant white rump contrasting sharply with dark upper body—distinctive in flight. Breeds in boreal forest bogs of Eurasia, using old tree nests; winters along muddy freshwater margins from Europe south to Africa and South Asia. Feeds on invertebrates. Partial migrant.
