New Zealand Grebe (Poliocephalus rufopectus) is a small 27–29 cm grebe endemic to New Zealand's North Island. Dark cap; chestnut neck; whitish cheeks. Inhabits shallow, vegetated freshwater lakes and ponds. Endangered; population only ~1,900 birds and declining.

Least Grebe

Least Grebe (Tachybaptus dominicus) is the smallest New World grebe at 21–27 cm. Dark grey overall in breeding plumage with yellow eye, blackish cap, and short bill. Inhabits small freshwater ponds, ditches, and marshes from the southern USA through Central and South America to northern Argentina. Feeds on small fish and aquatic invertebrates.
