Lesser Flamingo
Lesser Flamingo (Phoeniconaias minor) is the world's most numerous flamingo at 80–90 cm. Deep carmine-pink plumage; dark red bill. The smallest flamingo species. Inhabits highly alkaline soda lakes across sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia; core populations at Lake Natron, Tanzania, and Sambhar Lake, India. Filter-feeds on Spirulina cyanobacteria.
Puna Flamingo
Puna Flamingo (Phoenicoparrus jamesi) is a medium 90–92 cm flamingo of extreme high-altitude Andean salt lakes above 4,000 m. Pale pink; distinctive red facial skin; all-red bill with black tip; yellow legs. Found in Bolivia, Chile, Peru, and Argentina. Vulnerable; ~50,000 birds. Also called James's Flamingo.
