About These Birds
Pink Pigeon
Stocky Mascarene pigeon, 36–38 cm, with pale pinkish-brown plumage, white forehead, and red bill and eye-ring. Confined to Mauritius's native forests. Reduced to just 10 individuals in the 1980s; an intensive conservation programme involving captive breeding raised numbers to 400–500 birds. Frugivore of native forest fruits. Vulnerable.
