About These Birds
Beautiful Woodpecker
The Beautiful Woodpecker is an attractively patterned woodpecker endemic to the forests and woodland edges of northwestern Colombia. Males have bold black-and-white barring on the back, a red cap, and yellow wash on the underparts. It forages on tree trunks and branches for insects, larvae, and fruits.
Antillean Piculet
The Antillean Piculet is a small woodpecker endemic to Hispaniola, weighing about 31 grams with a wingspan near 15 cm. As the only piculet in the Caribbean, it occupies a unique ecological niche, pecking at bark and wood for insects in forested areas. Its small size distinguishes it from larger Caribbean woodpeckers.
