About These Birds
Audouin's Gull
Audouin's Gull, 44–48 cm, is a Near Threatened Mediterranean endemic, breeding mainly in the western basin. Coral-red bill with black and yellow band, grey mantle. Primarily piscivore; forages at sea at dusk for anchovies. Population recovered from 1,000 to over 20,000 pairs; now threatened by fishing bycatch.
Mediterranean Gull
Mediterranean Gull, 36–38 cm, has expanded dramatically since the 1970s, breeding across Europe from the Black Sea to Britain. Pure white body, jet-black hood in breeding plumage — the only gull with entirely white wingtips. Piscivore and invertivore; nests in colonies, often with Black-headed Gulls.
