About These Birds
Wattled Jacana
Wattled Jacana: 23–27 cm, maroon-and-black South American jacana with a red frontal wattle, yellow wing spurs, and extremely long toes for walking on floating vegetation. Widespread in freshwater wetlands with lily pads from Panama south to Argentina and Trinidad. Polyandrous; male guards chicks. Invertebrate and plant seed feeder.
