About These Birds
Band-rumped Storm-petrel
Band-rumped Storm-petrel, 19–21 cm, breeds on Atlantic and Pacific volcanic islands including the Azores, Canaries, and Galápagos. Sooty brown with a white rump band; similar to Leach's but straighter wingtips and steadier flight. Multiple cryptic species may be involved. Planktivore; widespread pelagic.
Ashy Storm-petrel
Ashy Storm-petrel, 19–21 cm, is restricted to the California Current of the eastern Pacific; breeding on Channel Islands and the Farallon Islands.
