A small bustard (55-60 cm) found in the arid Namib desert and adjacent semi-arid regions of southwestern Africa. Sandy-brown plumage with intricate markings. Omnivore. Named after the German zoologist Eduard Rüppell. A near-endemic of the Namib desert region.

Lesser Florican

A small bustard (45-51 cm) found in grasslands of the Indian subcontinent. Males in breeding plumage have a black head and neck with an elongated nuchal crest. Critically Endangered due to severe grassland habitat loss. Males perform spectacular leaping display flights.
