Masked Finfoot (Heliopais personatus), 52 cm. Olive-brown with a striking yellow bill, black mask and yellow-green legs. Inhabits lowland forest rivers and swamps of Southeast Asia from Myanmar to Sumatra. Omnivore. Endangered; rapid loss of lowland forest and wetland habitat.
African Finfoot
African Finfoot (Podica senegalensis), 52–63 cm. Long-necked, cryptic waterbird; brown above, white below with orange-red legs and feet. Inhabits shaded forest rivers, streams and lake margins across sub-Saharan Africa. Omnivore: insects, fish, frogs and plant material. Least Concern but secretive and rarely seen.
