About These Birds

African Barred Owlet

The African Barred Owlet weighs about 148g and inhabits woodland across sub-Saharan Africa. Active by day as well as night, it hunts insects, small reptiles, and birds with great agility.

Biak Scops-owl

The Biak Scops-owl is a near-threatened small owl endemic to Biak Island in West Papua, Indonesia. It has cryptic brown-mottled plumage with small ear tufts typical of scops-owls. It inhabits lowland and hill forests, hunting insects and small vertebrates at night, and its very restricted range makes it sensitive to habitat changes.
