About These Birds

African Snipe

African Snipe: 25–28 cm, medium-large snipe resident in high-altitude wetlands, bogs, and marshy grassland of eastern and southern Africa from Ethiopia and Sudan to the Cape. Cryptic brown-and-buff streaking. Probes soft mud for invertebrates. Sedentary. Performs display 'drumming' flights with spread tail in breeding season.

Willet

Willet: 33–41 cm, large stocky North American shank with bold black-and-white wingbar spectacular in flight, grey-blue legs, and loud 'pill-will-willet' call. Two populations: eastern breeds on Atlantic coast salt-marshes, western on prairie wetlands. Winters on both American coasts south to South America. Feeds on invertebrates.
