Antipodean Albatross
Antipodean Albatross, 100–117 cm, wingspan 250–320 cm, breeds on Antipodes and Campbell Islands south of New Zealand. Males are whiter than females; brown-mantled in younger birds. Circumnavigates the Southern Ocean. Endangered; declining due to longline bycatch, plastic ingestion, and climate effects.
Light-mantled Albatross
Light-mantled Albatross, 79–89 cm, wingspan 183–218 cm, is perhaps the most graceful albatross: dark chocolate head and wings contrasting with pale grey body and back. Breeds on New Zealand sub-Antarctic islands and other Southern Ocean islands. Soars effortlessly in storm winds. Near Threatened.
