Corncrake (Crex crex), 28 cm. Streaky buff-brown; distinctive chestnut wings visible in flight; rasping 'crex-crex' call. Breeds in hay meadows across Europe and western Asia; winters in eastern and southern Africa. Omnivore. Near Threatened; intensive agriculture has caused severe decline.
Talaud Rail
Talaud Rail (Gymnocrex talaudensis) is a poorly-known rail endemic to the Talaud Islands in the northern Moluccas, Indonesia. Similar to Blue-faced Rail; brown above with some rufous tones; bare facial skin. Inhabits forest and scrub on small islands. Known from very few specimens.
