Small dove, 19–23 cm, with scaly brown plumage produced by black feather edging, rufous primaries, and a long scallop-patterned tail. Common in arid and semi-arid open areas from the southwestern USA through Central America to Costa Rica. Granivore of seeds. Frequently seen in urban gardens. Least Concern.
