About These Birds

Oriental Plover

Oriental Plover: 22–25 cm, tall long-legged plover with a broad chestnut breast in breeding male, white supercilium, and erect posture. Breeds in Mongolia and northern China; migrates to Australia via Southeast Asia, wintering on open dry grassland and stubble fields. Long-distance migrant. Insectivorous. Large flocks at staging areas.

Spot-breasted Lapwing

Spot-breasted Lapwing: 28–30 cm, Ethiopian highland endemic lapwing with a black head and breast spotted white, and red legs. Restricted to high-altitude moorland and montane grassland above 1,800 m in Ethiopia. Insectivorous. Sedentary; rare and little-studied. Declining due to overgrazing and agricultural encroachment.
