About These Birds

Snowy Plover: 15–17 cm, pale sandy-white North American plover with dark partial breast-band patches and dark bill. Breeds on sandy beaches, salt flats, and alkali lake shores in North America, Caribbean, and western South America; partly migratory. Insectivorous. NT. Vulnerable to beach recreation, storm wash-over, and predation.
Spot-breasted Lapwing
Spot-breasted Lapwing: 28–30 cm, Ethiopian highland endemic lapwing with a black head and breast spotted white, and red legs. Restricted to high-altitude moorland and montane grassland above 1,800 m in Ethiopia. Insectivorous. Sedentary; rare and little-studied. Declining due to overgrazing and agricultural encroachment.
