About These Birds

Hadada Ibis

76 cm. Greyish-brown; iridescent purple-green shoulder patch; bare grey-pink facial skin; reddish bill stripe. Very common and widespread across sub-Saharan Africa; increasingly colonises urban parks and gardens. Feeds on earthworms and invertebrates in lawns and open ground. Known for loud, far-carrying calls.

Andean Ibis

75 cm. White head and neck with chestnut tones; black upperparts; bare reddish facial skin. Restricted to Andean grasslands (puna) of Peru, Bolivia, and northwestern Argentina at 3,000–5,000 m elevation. Vulnerable; feeds on invertebrates and small vertebrates in high-altitude bogs and grasslands.
