About These Birds

Australian King-parrot

The Australian King-parrot is a large, striking parrot found in humid forests and forest edges of eastern Australia. Weighing about 237.8g with a wingspan of 42cm, the male has a brilliant scarlet head and underparts contrasting with dark green upperparts. It feeds on seeds, fruit, and blossoms in the forest canopy.

Black Lory

The Black Lory is a medium-sized, entirely black lory with red undertail coverts, a yellow bill, and red bare facial skin around the eye, giving it a striking appearance. It inhabits the rainforests of western New Guinea and nearby islands including Misool, Salawati, and Batanta. Like other lories, it feeds primarily on nectar and pollen from forest flowers, with a brush-tipped tongue adapted for this diet.
