Inhabits Atlantic Forest of southeastern Brazil, northeastern Argentina, and eastern Paraguay. Arboreal frugivore relying heavily on palmito palm fruits. Endangered due to severe Atlantic Forest deforestation, overhunting, and capture for the cage-bird trade.
