Mitrospingidae

Mitrospingus tanagers; 3 species of medium-sized tanager-like birds found in Central and northern South America. Dull olive-and-grey plumage; subtly patterned. Inhabit humid forest understory. Long placed among tanagers, but molecular studies reveal them as a distinct ancient lineage requiring their own family.
