About These Birds

Bare-faced Ground Dove

Small dove, 17–19 cm, sandy-buff with a bold bare yellow-orange facial patch, dark wings, and pale underparts. Inhabits open Andean hillsides and high-altitude scrub from Peru to northern Chile and Argentina, often above 3,000 m. Granivore of seeds. One of the highest-altitude doves in the world. Least Concern.

Adamawa Turtle-dove

Medium dove, 27–30 cm, with warm rufous-brown upperparts, a black neck collar, and a deep orange-red breast. Endemic to the highland plateaus and montane grasslands of northern Nigeria and Cameroon. Granivore of grass seeds and cultivated grains. Poorly studied and localised range. Least Concern.
