A medium-sized megapode (~770 g) of family Megapodiidae, endemic to the Vanuatu archipelago in the southwest Pacific. Inhabits coastal and inland tropical forests, using solar-heated volcanic soils or organic mounds for egg incubation. Omnivorous, foraging on the ground for seeds and invertebrates.
